The corruption of the last free forum in the world

Much buzz and controversy has been surrounding ajit pai’s successful repeal of net neutrality. This only marks the first step in an entire process. So this begs the question:

What’s the big deal?

Well here’s the sitch: the internet is distributed by ISP’s (Internet Service Providers) which are required to run all internet at the same speed for a specific amount of gigabytes as per to your personal plan. The service providers cannot change the internet speeds of different websites, because of Net Neutrality. Ajit Pai, along with ISP’s want to eliminate Net Neutrality. The repeal would allow for major ISP’s such as Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T to milk money out of internet companies to sign larger contracts for higher speeds. And, while the major companies such as Netflix, Hulu, or Youtube may be able to handle those large contracts, new companies won’t. The repeal will crush new internet companies which will ruin online entrepreneurship. New businesses will simply not have the funds to afford high speed and thus lose customers.

But why?

The answer is simple: money. Ajit and ISP’s want you to think that the repeal of Net Neutrality is centered around the capitalist idea of competition. Internet companies will be more likely to compete with one another to benefit the consumer. ISP’s and market excess claim innovation and investment is discouraged under Net Neutrality. Though, the booming growth of the internet in the past few years would prove otherwise. But enough with the fuss,

Who is this Ajit Pai?

Ajit Pai was appointed FCC Chairman by Donald J. Trump, the outspoken and provocative 45th president. Pai was recently employed (well in 2003) by one of the major ISP’s Verizon. He was an Associate General Counsel at Verizon Communications Inc. This is just one example of the numerous industry shills which have infiltrated the central government. With Ajit Pai in office, we must look back again and ask:

Who’s side is the government on?

Big business? Major corporations? The top 1%? The list can go on, but it seems to be anyone but the people. A poll running before the repeal of Net Neutrality determined 83% of people opposed the repeal of Net Neutrality. There are no alternatives to that fact. America says no. Yet on December 14, 2017, the ruling was 3-2 in favor of repealing internet freedom. This is a government created, by, and for the people of the United States. The government needs to hear the voice of the American people beyond the scope of the ballot box. The internet is one of the last places where people can experience an anonymous and free world. The people of the United States, and frankly the United States government, should be more than concerned. Although this is only the first step in the process, we must cut the weed at its root.
